Chloe Brown of the 11,800 block of Cross Roads Avenue, Felton, has been identified by York County Coroner Pam Gay following the crash.
State police were called a "multi-vehicle crash" in the southbound lanes on I-83 at Exit 40 A in Fairview Township at 1:21 a.m. on Jan. 13.
First responders arrived to find Brown who had been driving a passenger vehicle, dead at the scene. She was pronounced dead at 2:46 a.m., according to Gay. Deputy Coroner Karen Frank and Deputy Coroner-in-Training Tre' Touchet were called to the scene to investigate and certify the death.
Her autopsy took place on Jan. 15, but details will be released only after the family has been notified, Gay explained.
Three other people involved in the crash were taken to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center.
"A preliminary investigation determined a total of four passenger vehicles and two commercial vehicles were involved in the crash," Trooper James Grothey said.
The Troop J Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Troop J Forensic Services Unit, and York County Coroner’s Office were also called to the six-vehicle crash.
The southbound lanes on I-83 at Exit 40A were shut down while the investigation continued, but they appear to have reopened around 10:30 a.m., according to PennDOT.
Chloe was a Red Lion native who attended Red Lion Senior High School, according to her social media. She went on to be a preschool teacher, working at several local schools, before hitting the road and traveling the US, she shared in several posts. Chloe mostly recently worked for the Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa before moving on to Burlington, Vermont, according to her latest bio updates.
Some of the parents of her former students and her co-workers shared the following on social media:
- "She was such a sweet, kind, genuine soul! She lived so intentionally. After she left she would text me on everyone of those preschoolers birthdays to have me tell them happy birthday! I know she is going to be so so missed."
- "She was the very first teacher to buy my daughter a gift at 3 years old! She cherished life… & she just CARED. About everyone."
- "what a beautiful soul...I am glad you had the pleasure of knowing her..very few people would take the time to do such kindness."
Funeral and memorial service details for Chloe have yet to be released at the time of writing.
